An eating disorder is psychological disarray in which an individual has an undeniable need to starve, to binge and flush out. In other words, these individuals have an urge of not eating or eat within a short duration of time and then get rid of all of the food from their bodies through vomiting, the use of laxatives and diuretics. There are two major types of eating disorder that are outstanding in teenage girls. These are Bulimia and Anorexia Nervosa. Although they have several similarities, bulimia and anorexia are also different in many ways.

Anorexia nervosa is largely characterized through the loss of appetite among young women. People with anorexia tend to show signs of weakness and they become nervous when around food. It is an eating disorder in which a person avoids eating and normally weighs about fifteen percent of their desirable body weight. People suffering from anorexia experiences the following symptoms; they are often desiccated and constipated, loss of hair, impaired immune systems and hormonal imbalance.

On the other hand, Bulimia is eating disorder where an individual binges or consumes a lot of food within a short period then later get rid of it through purging, use of laxatives and diuretics so as to remove food in their system. Patients suffering from bulimia normally have tooth decay, sore gums, are dehydrated, impaired bowel movement and an increase in blood pressure.

Other than eating habits, Anorexia and bulimia are also widely caused by cultural and family pressures experienced by a patient, genetics, emotions disorder and chemical disorder. These two disorders are serious and they require proper medical attention. People of all races, cultural groups and socioeconomic levels can be affected by both bulimia and anorexia. It is important that people suffering from these disorders should be encouraged so as to boost their self esteem.
