Play is described as the physical and mental activity for leisure that is undertaken mostly for pleasure and the fun without any other objective. The play can be outdoor or indoor depending on many facts like weather, tools for play and the type of play. Outdoor play is the type of play whereby the children are allowed to play outside under a keen watch of the adults, caretakers or the teachers. It involves more physical, language and social skills. On the other hand indoor play can be described as the games which are within a controlled setting e.g. at home (JoAnne, 141). The games are controlled by parents, caretakers or even educators. There are different types of plays namely onlooker, solitary, associative, parallel, rough and tumble, cooperative and socio-dramatic.

Onlooker is a type of game that involves a group of children playing while others watch or observe them play. The type of play makes the child to gain skills while looking at others play. Also when keenly observing the child may learn some social skills and develop their attention span (JoAnne, 141).

The other type of play is the solitary play whereby a child plays on his or her own. In this type of play the child develops cognitively in that the kid learns things on his own way through discovering and being innovative. Also the child learns to do most of the tasks on his own or solitarily.

Associative play as it sounds is the type of play whereby a children play in a group and mostly between the age of 3 and 4. They mostly play together but a child does his or her own thing e.g. a group of children playing with matchboxes but building different things (Rogers, 44). It is a stage whereby the children are taught how to associate with others and share things thus building their social skills. Furthermore there is development in learning on how to react and solve problems when they arouse among them.

When we talk about parallel play we simply mean that the child is playing alongside or with others. It can be also when the child is playing and the other kid playing alongside but they are not exactly playing together. This kind of play will help your child to develop basic concepts and rules of play with skills on how to interact with others.

The rough and tumble type of play is usually dangerous. This is where children play in groups and there are no rules of the game thus allowing the hyperactivity behavior and geocentricism to show up in the play ground or centre (Rogers, 44). The children scramble for play tolls like toys and there is no sharing thus encouraging fight and accidents mostly occur in this type of play.

The best type of play is cooperative. In this type of play children share and cooperate in the play as group encouraging each other through helping and allowing others to participate on the play thus improving the children’s ability to holistically.

Social dramatic type of play is where children are permitted to fit the reality of the world into their own knowledge and interest. It contributes mostly in intellectual development and physical growth or development.

My observations are that this is an outdoor play and most children enjoy it. They fully participate in the play and thus holistic development.

The type of play that I see is the onlooker whereby while other children are showing their skills some of them just look and cheer them. Also there is associative and parallel plays in that they play in groups and both of them associate in contribution on the game while on the other hand the other children are following others playing alongside while they enjoy and these is seen in associative and parallel plays accordingly (Carter, 17).

To conclude in terms of sex difference the children play together and it is not easily observed. According to my observations, as a parent children should be allowed to play and socialize with other to grow and develop holistically for play posses the best means to better holistic development.
